Find Hosting Company

Find: Domain Registrar | Hosting Company | Email Provider

The hosting provider is the company powering the servers behind a website. They provide the physical hosting space for the website.

Step 1 - Find Nameservers

Nameservers provide dns service, which points the domain to its hosting and email providers. This can often give you a hint of who the hosting provider is. You can perform a dns lookup to find the nameservers for the domain.

  1. Go to
  2. Enter the domain name (ie.
(be sure to perform the lookup on the exact name you want the hosting company for since and could be serviced by different companies and have different content on them)
  3. Press Enter on your keyboard
  4. Scroll down and you will see the Authoritative Nameservers listed for the domain

The nameservers will indicate the company providing the domain's dns service, which in many cases is also the hosting provider.

Step 2 - Find IP Address

The company listed as the nameservers may not always be the hosting company. The domain could be using a separate dns provider for its nameservers. In those cases, you'll need to get the domain's IP address to find the actual hosting provider.

  1. Using the same lookup results from Step 1, look for the A record. That is the IP address for the name.
    • If you see a CNAME record, it means the name is pointing to another name. The CNAME record name may give you a hint of the hosting company OR you can repeat the dns lookup on the CNAME record name to get its ip address and continue below.
  2. Copy the IP Address

Step 3 - IP Whois

Once you have the IP address, you can perform a whois search on it to find the hosting / ip provider.

  1. Go to
  2. Enter the IP Address from Step 2
  3. Press Enter on your keyboard
  4. The IP address' whois record will appear
  5. This will give you the name of the company responsible for your hosting / ip
