Pointing to Your Own Web Server

Are You Hosting Your Web Site on Your own Web Server?

Running your own web server eliminates the need for a web hosting company. When you run your own web server, you are directly responsible for your web site.

What You Will Need

  • Domain Essentials
  • The IP Address of your Web Server

Custom DNS Setup

  1. Please visit http://www.misk.com and login to your "Control Panel" using your username and password.
  2. Click on your domain name under "All Domains".
  3. Click on Website Settings in the "Domain Actions" panel.
  4. Click on IP Address or Hostname Pointing.
  5. Enter the IP Address or Hostname in the "IP Address / Hostname" field.
  6. Click Save Settings to save the changes.

Once you have setup your domain name to resolve to your Web Server, be sure to consult any necessary documentation that you have in order to properly configure your Web Server to accept these requests.

Note: The changes to your DNS settings may take up to 24 - 48 hours to fully take effect and your domain name may not resolve correctly during this time.

Dynamic IP Addresses

If you have a Dynamic IP Address please view our guide on Using Custom DNS with a Dynamic IP Address.

Troubleshooting Your Web Server

Check that your Domain is Correctly Configured

Make sure that you have followed the steps above to correctly configure your domain to point to your Web Server.

Check Server Configuration

If the domain name is correctly setup but you are still unable to connect to your web server you will want to contact your web server's manufacturer for further assistance in troubleshooting this issue.
