Who is my Domain Registrar or Web Host?
If you are not sure who the Domain Registrar or Web Host is for your domain name you can easily find this information through the WHOIS file associated with your domain name.
Using the WHOIS to find information
Every domain name has a file associated with it that displays the contact information as well as other key points regarding the domain name itself. This is known as the WHOIS file.
You may use our WHOIS Lookup Tool to view the WHOIS file of your domain name.
When viewing this file, you will see the following information.
- Registrant Contact Information
- Administrative Contact Information
- Technical Contact Information
- Nameservers for the Domain Name
- Current Registrar
- Creation, Updated, and Expiration dates
- Current Status of Domain Name
Listed in the WHOIS file is the "Registrar". This will display information about the current registrar, which is the company that has registered your domain name itself. A Referral URL will also usually be listed, should you require more information.
In the WHOIS record, the web host is not directly listed. However, the nameservers that are listed for the domain will usually give a hint as to what the actual hosting company is. If you enter just the domain name from the nameservers into your web browser, it will normally take you to the web host's main page.
For example, if your nameservers are listed as ns1.webhost.com and ns2.webhost.com, your web site is most likely hosted through webhost.com.
