I'm getting a "blocked for abuse" error for messages that are sent to my Email Forwarding address.
The reason this happens is because most email providers will see Email Forwarding addresses as addresses that were setup to send Spam, even though this is not the case with legitimate Email Forwarding addresses. Whenever someone marks an email that is Spam in their email client (or with their email provider directly) that was received through the Email Forwarding address, the email provider will identify the wrong originator of the email.
Due to the nature of most email provider's Spam filtering software, we will be incorrectly identified as the source of Spam because they will flag our mail server IP Address instead. Therefore, our mail server will be blacklisted which will cause all email that is sent through Misk.com Email Forwarding addresses to be blocked completely.
This is an increasing problem with Email Forwarding addresses in general, not just ours. There are some email providers which have more sophisticated Spam filtering rules than others. However, most of the major email providers will incorrectly block us because of this issue.
How do I fix this problem?
Although there is no way to avoid this issue from happening, you can completely prevent this from occurring again in the future.
If your email provider has started to block emails from your Email Forwarding address, we highly recommend that you forward emails to an email address on your domain name instead of forwarding the messages along to another email provider. We now include 100 POP email addresses along with the Domain Essentials package which you are free to use at any time.
If you have not yet created a POP email address on your domain, please visit our setup guide for creating an email account. Once you have created a new POP email address, you may then replace the "Destination Address" of your Email Forwarding address with your newly created POP account with us.
Another option would be to delete your Email Forwarding address completely and exclusively use a POP email account. If you go this route, you can either use our Webmail Client and/or an email client to send and receive email.
You may still have problems sending email to your ISP or email provider's mail server because of the time it takes for us to be removed from a blacklist. In most cases, we are removed from most blacklists within 24 - 48 hours.
To resolve this particular issue, we recommend changing your outgoing mail server in your email client from our mail server, smtp.misk.com, to your ISP's or other email provider's outgoing mail server (e.g: smtp.yourisp.com). Your email messages will be routed differently but you will at least be able to send out email to your chosen destination. Once we are removed from the blacklist, you may then use our outgoing mail server again.
